Vietnam officially launches first carbon trading exchange
Vietnam officially launched its carbon trading exchange, initiating pilot trading of greenhouse gas emission allowances (VN2025). On the first day, over 1,200 tons of CO2e were traded, closing at VND130,000 ($4.95) per ton. The pilot phase involves 92 companies from high-emitting sectors like thermal power, steel, and cement, which have been allocated 511 million tons of allowances for 2025–2026. This cap-and-trade system allows carbon credits to offset up to 30% of quotas, supporting Vietnam’s net-zero 2050 target ahead of full market operation in 2029.
