Sustainability
Welhunt’s business model is international trade, and our subsidiaries in Taiwan, China, Singapore, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom are all office-based, with no manufacturing processes or production equipment. Therefore, Welhunt’s energy usage primarily consists of office electricity consumption and fuel for company vehicles. Additionally, the Kaohsiung office cafeteria prepares lunch for employees daily, and the Taipei employee dormitory is equipped with natural gas stoves and water heaters, resulting in a small amount of natural gas usage.
To address energy saving and carbon reduction, we have implemented the following action plans:
Signing and Responding to Sustainability Initiatives | Through publicly advocating for sustainability commitments, Welhunt continues to promote internal energy-saving and carbon reduction measures. In 2023, we proactively participated in the Environmental Protection Administration’s Green Office Initiative. In the first half of 2024, we also took part in the World Wide Fund for Nature’s “Earth Day – Turn Off the Lights for One Hour” campaign and Greenpeace Taiwan’s “RE10x10 Initiative.” Through a planned renewable energy strategy, we have committed to using 100% renewable energy at our Taiwan operations by 2050. |
Procuring Green Energy | In 2024, Welhunt’s Taiwan operations signed a 7-year Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) with an electricity supplier, committing to using no less than 10% of the total electricity consumption of the previous year at our Taiwan operations in renewable energy each year from 2024 to 2030 (short-term goal). After achieving this short-term goal, we plan to gradually increase the proportion of renewable energy used. |
Procurement of Energy-Efficient Products | We commit to paying attention to the useful lives of assets. As the age of assets (including automobiles and appliances) increases, the energy conversion efficiency will degrade, thereby consuming more energy. In addition to phasing out old assets, we give priority to purchasing products with energy labels or energy-saving benefits. For example, we adopted an ERP project in 2022, which is a cross-system virtual architecture established using virtual technology. Compared with an approach using a physical server, it can reduce electricity consumption by 67%. In addition, the subsidiary in China will give priority to electric vehicles when purchasing company cars in 2023. |
Spreading Sustainability Knowledge | Each month, we send an ESG newsletter to all Welhunt employees, covering global sustainability news and trends. Additionally, we periodically invite external ESG experts to the Welhunt office to provide sustainability-related knowledge to all employees and senior management. |
In-House Energy Efficiency Initiatives and Promotional Campaigns | Energy saving requires the joint efforts of all employees. Through ESG e-newsletters, we promote energy conservation to our employees. For examples, we suggest shutting down computers at the end of the workday to minimize standby energy consumption, setting the air conditioning temperature at no lower than 26°C and pairing it with an indoor recirculation fan. In terms of promoting fuel-saving driving habits, we encourage minimizing excessive acceleration, frequent braking, and idling. When each individual makes small efforts in energy conservation, our collective efforts can lead to significant benefits. |
Green office building | In 2021, we established our global headquarters in Taipei, selecting the IBF Financial Holding Building, distinguished by its silver-grade green building label (certificate No. GB-BC-01-00699), as our site of choice. The abundant natural lighting of the green building contributes to energy conservation. Furthermore, during the office renovation, WelHunt incorporated a carefully designed lighting and air conditioning zoning system. This system includes switches that prevent unnecessary energy consumption by ensuring that lighting and air conditioning equipment do not operate in unoccupied areas for extended periods. |
