Sustainability
Welhunt mainly engages in international trade. Subsidiaries in Taiwan, China, Singapore, Indonesia, and the UK are all operating in the form of offices without any process and production equipment in place. Therefore, Welhunt’s carbon emission is mainly from electricity used in offices and fuel for company cars. A small amount of natural gas is used in the Kaohsiung employee cafeteria to cook lunches every day and the Taipei employee dormitory’s natural gas stoves and water heaters.
We have taken the following emission reduction plans in the Company:
Responding to and signing sustainability initiatives | Welhunt promotes internal energy conservation and carbon reduction initiatives through public advocacy of sustainable commitments. In 2023, we actively participated in the Ministry of Environment’s Green Office Initiative. During the first half of 2024, we voluntarily participated in the “Earth Hour” event initiated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the “RE10x10 Initiative” organized by Greenpeace Taiwan. Through a planned renewable energy strategy, we have committed to using 100% renewable energy at our Taiwan operating locations by 2050. |
Purchasing green electricity | Welhunt’s Taiwan operation site signed a 7-year Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) with an electricity retailer in 2024. This agreement stipulates that a minimum of 10% of the Taiwan operating locations’ total electricity consumption will be sourced from renewable energy annually from 2024 to 2030 (short-term target). Upon achieving this short-term target, the proportion of renewable energy utilized will be gradually increased. Taiwan’s operating locations consumed a total of 164,605.11 kWh of electricity in 2023. As a result, the Company expects to utilize at least 16,461 kWh of green electricity in 2024. |
Purchasing of energy conservation and low-carbon products | As the age of assets (including automobiles and appliances) increases, the energy conversion efficiency would degrade, thereby consuming more energy. Welhunt is committed to paying attention to the useful lives of its assets. In addition to phasing out old assets, we give priority to purchasing products with energy labels or energy-saving benefits. For example, the laptops distributed to employees are purchased with energy-saving labels. Furthermore, regarding company cars, Welhunt has committed to fully phasing out gasoline-powered vehicles by 2040. In the near term, the Company will prioritize the acquisition of electric or other alternative energy company cars. Additionally, 1 electric vehicle was purchased from the Chinese subsidiary in early 2024. |
Disseminating sustainability knowledge | We distribute a monthly ESG e-newsletter to all employees, highlighting global sustainability news and trends. Additionally, we invite external ESG experts to Welhunt’s office to share sustainability-related knowledge with all employees and senior managers as needed. |
Implementation of internal energy-saving actions | Energy conservation in a company requires the collective effort of all employees. We promote energy-saving practices to our internal staff through the ESG newsletter, including but not limited to: “Setting air conditioning temperature no lower than 26°C and using indoor circulation fans,” “Avoiding heavy acceleration and frequent braking while driving, and reducing idling to achieve fuel savings,” and “Turning off computers after work to reduce energy consumption from standby mode.” As long as everyone makes a bit of effort in energy conservation, our collective efforts can lead to significant benefits. |
Green office building | In 2021, Welhunt set up its global headquarters in Taipei and chose the IBF Financial Holdings Building as its location, which was awarded the EEWH Silver Green Building Label (EEWH Certificate No. GB-BC-01-00699). The good lighting of the green building offers energy savings. Moreover, lighting and air-conditioning zone switches were incorporated during the office renovation to avoid unnecessary energy wastage when the lighting and air-conditioning equipment is used in an unoccupied space for a long period of time. |
Welhunt has responded to and signed the RE10x10 Initiative
