The Hood River Tree Farm Project Issues CCP-Labeled Credits

The Hood River County Tree Farm project in Oregon issued its first carbon credits, which received the ICVCM’s Core Carbon Principles label. Developed by The Climate Trust and the Hood River County Forestry Department, the project covers more than 32,000 acres of predominantly Douglas-fir and ponderosa pine forest. It is registered under ACR’s Improved Forest Management on Non-Federal U.S. Forestland Methodology, Version 2.1. The project aims to increase carbon storage by extending the forest’s average timber rotation age to as much as 90 years, compared with the regional practice of harvesting trees over approximately 45 years old. It will also use a dynamic baseline that periodically recalculates its carbon impacts. Revenue from carbon credit sales will support the county’s forest management, recreational opportunities and wildlife habitat conservation, while potentially financing the acquisition of additional forestland for inclusion in the project.
