Tanzania Targets $4M From Four New Carbon Projects

Tanzania has approved four carbon projects valued at more than US$52.1 million, involving BURN, UpEnergy, Water Mission and Bridge Carbon. The projects are expected to generate approximately 4.2 million carbon credits for international trading, with the government anticipating an 8% revenue share worth about US$4.2 million. Activities include clean cooking, improved cookstoves and safe-water access. By 2034, the initiatives could distribute more than 900,000 clean cookstoves to over 600,000 households. A nationwide water program covering 26 regions could reach more than one million households, create about 1,000 direct local jobs and support over 100 local suppliers. Collectively, the projects may reduce emissions by one to two million tonnes annually while supporting climate resilience, environmental conservation and Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050.
