New Project To Explore Coral Reefs, Mangroves And Seagrass Meadows With EU Support

A new EU-backed project will examine coral reefs, mangroves and seagrass meadows as interconnected coastal ecosystems rather than studying them separately. Supported by nearly €6 million in funding, the four-year initiative brings together 20 partners from 12 countries across Europe, Southeast Asia and Melanesia. Working with Indigenous Peoples, local communities and regional stakeholders, the project will develop science-based guidance for ecosystem protection and restoration. The research aims to support biodiversity conservation, carbon storage, climate resilience and sustainable blue economic growth while enabling more integrated and effective coastal management strategies.
