Indonesia strengthens global carbon market confidence through SRUK

Indonesia is strengthening its carbon market infrastructure through the Carbon Unit Registration System, or SRUK, launched on 9 July. The national registry records the complete lifecycle of carbon units, covering project registration, issuance, ownership transfers, trading and retirement across mitigation activities in multiple sectors. It also serves as the single source of truth for Indonesia’s Carbon Economic Value framework. When transactions occur on the Carbon Exchange, SRUK automatically updates unit ownership, status, trading volume and intended use, ensuring consistency between exchange records and the government registry. The system is designed to improve traceability, clarify ownership, prevent double counting and provide greater regulatory certainty for investors and project developers. Built in line with international registry standards and supported by blockchain technology developed with IDX Carbon, SRUK is expected to strengthen market integrity, attract green investment and support Indonesia’s NDC, climate finance and carbon economy ambitions.
