Indonesia and Thailand Target $30 Billion Trade Deal to Drive ASEAN Food and Carbon Markets
Kadin Indonesia and the Board of Trade of Thailand signed an agreement to develop a joint carbon market framework during the Indonesia–Thailand Business Forum in Jakarta. The initiative aims to mobilise investment for low-emission industrial projects across Southeast Asia and strengthen regional carbon market cooperation. Kadin Chairman Anindya Bakrie said growing demand from data centres, artificial intelligence infrastructure and manufacturing is increasing the need for credible and transparent carbon offset mechanisms, making carbon trading a major investment opportunity for ASEAN. Indonesia also invited Thai companies to participate in its national carbon market, launched on 9 July 2026. The platform enables multinational companies to purchase carbon credits while financing renewable energy projects across Indonesia. Carbon market cooperation forms part of wider efforts to deepen bilateral trade, investment and industrial integration.
