We get to do different things everyday and it never gets boring at work.
I’m Danica Herrera, the only Filipino in the Welhunt Trade Ops. Team.
I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of the Philippines and have worked in supply chain and operations, handling various suppliers locally and internationally. I’ve been with Welhunt for over a year, and I find the working environment refreshingly different and engaging.
What I appreciate most about this job is its lack of routine. Every day brings new tasks depending on the status of each shipment we handle. From contract reviews and communication with traders to discussions with banks about LCs, understanding marine terms, and coordinating with surveyors, our responsibilities span across all stages of each shipment.
Despite the challenges and stress, the professional growth I’ve experienced is invaluable. I’ve honed my communication skills with traders, banks, and clients, crucial for achieving our goals in a multicultural setting.
Working with my team is where I find the most enjoyment. We collaborate intensely during busy periods when multiple shipments require our full attention. It’s challenging yet fulfilling.
What do you like most about your job?
What I love most about my job is the variety. Whether it’s reviewing contracts, preparing LCs, or chasing traders, each day offers something different. This diversity keeps work exciting and never boring.
Another thing that I like about this job is we’re being trained to be versatile or flexible.
What are some of the challenges that you are facing? How do you develop your skills?
Challenges include managing prompt shipments without immediate buyer details, which impacts our document preparation. To overcome this, I learn from past experiences, seek advice from senior colleagues, and closely follow up with traders for essential information.
What inspires you to succeed every day?
Communicating effectively with busy traders is another challenge. I strive to be clear and concise, learning from senior members on handling misunderstandings and obtaining prompt responses.
When do you have the most fun at work?
Interactions with banks, often hindered by language barriers, also pose challenges. I rely on team support for clearer communication, although I aspire to engage directly with banks to enhance my understanding of LCs.My motivation stems from continually improving and gaining knowledge to work efficiently in diverse situations. Achieving even small milestones gives me a sense of accomplishment.
The most enjoyable moments at work are during busy periods when multiple shipments test our time management and organizational skills. Interacting daily with colleagues of different nationalities enriches my experience, showcasing the value of diversity in an international company like Welhunt.
