GSK Signs Carbon Removal Deal with Varaha

UK-based GSK, one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies, entered an eight-year carbon removal agreement with nature-based developer Varaha, structured through investment platform Earthly, to purchase over 600,000 tonnes of verified credits from regenerative farming across more than 50,000 hectares in Punjab and Haryana, India. Farmers will shift from residue burning, intensive tillage and flood irrigation to direct seeded rice, reduced tillage and residue incorporation. Co-benefits include avoided PM2.5 emissions, water savings and household income gains of 12% to 16%. It supports GSK’s targets of a 90% absolute emissions reduction against a 2020 baseline and value-chain net zero by 2045.
