Google agrees biggest carbon-removal deal yet, aims to scale new model
Google has agreed its largest carbon-removal deal to date, backing Terradot’s project across more than 200,000 hectares of rice farmland in southern Brazil. The initiative combines methane abatement with enhanced rock weathering, representing the first project of this scale to integrate both approaches. It will generate one million metric tons of methane-abatement credits by 2030 and one million tons of carbon-removal credits by 2040, with each verified separately. The model could eventually expand across Brazil and other rice-growing regions, while commercial scale-up is planned for 2028.
