Japan Airlines and Climeworks Solutions announce world’s first CORSIA-compliant carbon removal agreement
Japan Airlines and Climeworks Solutions announced the world’s first purchase agreement for carbon dioxide removal credits designed to meet ICAO CORSIA requirements. The portfolio sourced by Climeworks Solutions will include removal pathways selected to fulfil all requirements for CORSIA Eligible Emissions Units, including soil carbon sequestration and biochar. Alongside these, JAL will purchase Climeworks direct air capture credits, supporting long-term development of engineered removal. JAL was among the first airlines to retire large-scale CORSIA-eligible credits, and the deal marks an early integration of removal into compliance markets.
