ClimeCo, Marsoft Issue Shipping Carbon Credits
ClimeCo and Marsoft have completed the first issuance of Gold Standard carbon credits under the GreenScreen shipping decarbonisation project. The credits, available for immediate delivery, represent verified emissions reductions from energy-efficiency retrofits on vessels. More than 350 ships are enrolled, using upgrades that reduce fuel consumption and associated carbon dioxide emissions without requiring fleet replacement. The methodology was developed with the MIT Sea Grant Design Laboratory, while ClimeCo supports project registration, issuance and market access. Revenue from credit sales is intended to help shipowners finance additional retrofits while lower-carbon fuels and propulsion technologies remain commercially limited. GreenScreen therefore links voluntary carbon finance with near-term operational reductions in international shipping, a sector responsible for approximately 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
