BeZero Publishes Microsoft Carbon Removal Risk Ratings

BeZero Carbon has published 14 ex ante ratings of carbon removal projects assessed through Microsoft’s due diligence process. Covering improved forest management, soil carbon, biochar and agroforestry across the United States, Argentina, India and Peru, the reports evaluate additionality, carbon accounting, permanence, project execution and delivery risks, with some also examining environmental and community impacts. The assessments move scrutiny upstream, helping buyers and investors evaluate projects before credits are issued or capital is committed. Microsoft, which contracted more than 45 million tonnes of carbon removal in 2025, adds these reviews to its quality criteria. Full reports are available to BeZero platform subscribers, while freemium users can access ratings and execution-risk scores, providing benchmarks for procurement, financing and project design.
