Integrity Council announces CCP-Eligible program decisions for BioCarbon Standard, Cercarbono and Plan Vivo (PV Climate)

The ICVCM has approved BioCarbon Standard, Cercarbono and Plan Vivo’s PV Climate as CCP-Eligible carbon-crediting programs, subject to specified standard versions and validation requirements. CCP-Eligible programs now represent an estimated 95% of cumulative voluntary carbon market issuances. During the assessments, all three programs strengthened their governance, transparency, safeguards, conflict-of-interest controls and verification arrangements. BioCarbon Standard has issued over 85 million credits, Cercarbono around 130 million and Plan Vivo 15.9 million. However, program eligibility alone does not allow credits to carry the CCP label. Individual methodologies must also pass ICVCM’s category-level assessment under its two-tick process. BioCarbon Standard’s 17 AFOLU methodologies, including ARR, REDD+, biochar and regenerative agriculture, have not yet been assessed.
